In case you want to deal with the infestation on your own, you need to make sure that you are properly prepared to handle these feces.

The Dangers of the Squirrel Feces

There are various conditions and diseases that can be transmitted by the squirrels. The transmission of disease from squirrels to the human is known as zoonotic disease. It is highly important to take some precautions before you start determining the infestation level. Their feces may carry bacteria and spores that may become airborne once disturbed. Make sure that you will wear goggles to prevent eye irritation and mask to avoid inhaling the bacteria. Touching the feces can be dangerous; you will need a clean pair of gloves and long-sleeves to ensure that you will not be directly exposed to the feces.

Perhaps one of your primary concerns is the presence of leptospirosis on their feces. Just like any rodents, squirrels are also possible carrier of this disease. Leptospirosis is a condition wherein the bacteria can be spread by the urine and feces of the squirrels. It can be a mild condition where the symptoms may be similar to flu virus. This can be lethal when it is not treated properly. This may lead to respiratory ailments and other deadly complications. Another known condition would be salmonella; it may result to vomiting, diarrhea and in severe cases, death.

Proper Cleaning and Disposal

In case you are suffering from a squirrel infestation, it is highly important that you will thoroughly clean the area since their urine and feces can attract the other animals. Depending on the volume of dirt, you may need a vacuum cleaner to successfully pick up all the dirt. You may want to use a vacuum that comes with a filter and a strong suction power. There are instances when the feces are stuck in the surface that you may need to utilize chisel knife to remove them. Avoid contaminating the other part of your house while you are cleaning. With regards to disposal, you may burry them away from your property. The eggs of the worm can survive for a long period as long as the soil is moist.

Finally, you need to disinfect the entire area to make sure that all traces of spores and bacteria have been properly eliminated. It is quite impossible for you to successfully remove all feces and the pheromones left can draw the other wildlife species. This is why you need to disinfect your place. There are disinfectants that can guarantee that all bacteria have been successfully killed making your house a safe place to live in.
