How to get rid of mice in the attic

Your attic is a cozy spot that is nice and dry. It is in close proximity to food and water; it is safe from most predators. Mice are happy to move in and start a family. Mice in your attic are a serious problem. Mice, like all rodents must chew nonstop because their front teeth grow constantly. Constant chewing causes the destruction of drywall, wiring, wood, PVC, conduits and insulation as well as your precious other valuables. Mice are germ laden, carry diseases, and body pests that can be spread to humans and other animals. They are noisy, rummage through your kitchen, and cause bad odors. There is a multitude of ways to get rid of them. You can set a batch of snap traps. These are spring loaded traps are designed to snap over the mouse killing it as it goes for a piece of bait laid on the trap.

You must check them frequently to get rid of bodies. Poison in the attic is another option. This is risky because if the mice will go off to die in some secluded spot, die and the body could be found by another animal that eats it and gets sick, or you may not find the body before it rots. You could use live traps to catch or an exclusion funnel with a cage to catch them alive in large numbers. This means you have live mice to dispose of. Glue traps work by catching and immobilizing the creature where it dies from starvation or exposure. There are high tech Electronic Sonic emitters of different types that are sold everywhere. These claim they drive the animals away by using high frequency sound.

Some people claim that they can also hear the sound, and it has been known to cause distress for other animals as well. There are a number of DIY home remedies like, peppermint, mothballs, or ammonia spread around the attic to run them off. All these things claim to work just by scattering them around in the attic space. It is said the strong aroma upsets the mouse’s sensitive nose and eyes causing them to want to leave the immediate area. Keep in mind your home will probably retain the smell as well. You may want to hire a professional pest removal service to handle your problem. They can look at your situation and offer you the best solution. They will also take care of any mice, dead or alive. Once all the mice are gone, take precautions to keep them from coming back. Seal any holes and remove all mouse debris.
