Home Remedies to Keep Away Raccoons and Get Rid of Them:

Raccoons are one of the biggest problems that humans have to deal with in regard to wildlife. These animals think of your property as a potential source of food and shelter, and can often slip in unnoticed until it’s too late. If you are dealing with raccoons making their dens in or around your home, or causing damage to your home and property, but are hesitant to use traps and poison around your family and pets, there are a few home remedies that you can use to drive away raccoons and get rid of them.

One of the simplest way to ward off raccoons is through preventing them from getting into your property in the first place. Fences will often keep raccoons away from both your food and your property, and are easy to erect around your land lines. Raccoons are not good climbers, in general, but if you notice that they are having no trouble scaling your fence, then you can always invest in electric fencing.

Raccoons are generally incredibly sensitive to strong smells, which can come in handy when trying to repel these animals from your home or yard- with the added benefit that these might be things that can often be found in your home or grocery store easily.

One of the most natural ways to get rid of raccoons and make sure that they will not bother you or your home anymore is by using cayenne pepper. Since raccoons have a heightened sense of smell, cayenne is one of the most effective spices to use. To make a repellent spray with this spice, simply add one small canister of pepper, along with one bottle of hot sauce, to a gallon of water. Spray this solution liberally all over your garden plants, reapplying after any rainfall to keep the smell pungent. If you would rather not deal with mixing them yourself, you can also buy commercial dog and cat repellents at local pet stores, which will work the same, driving raccoons away from your property.

A final raccoon control solution that is probably either in your home, or can be easily obtained is ammonia. To keep raccoons away, simply position several rags soaked in ammonia near or around the entrances that raccoons are using to get in or out of your home, as well as spray some diluted ammonia around the places that animals have been spotted.

If you are having problems with raccoons, but are not sure if you would want to use traps or poisons around your home and family, there are many natural ways to get rid of the pests, that are easier to find and use than poison and traps.
